SSL VPNs can provide a secure, on-demand access to most legacy-based applications. Very few applications will not translate onto a browser-based architecture via an SSL VPN. Very old database systems that have non-standard-based protocols and/or direct connection systems, and some LD proprietary protocols (e.g., X.PC), however, may pose some problems. In addition, applications that require large fat client downloads and updates and custom applications that run in kernel mode on a user's PC may not work from many machines.
