As mentioned in Chapter 10, Overview of SharePoint Hybrid, there are two supported hybrid search topologies:
- Cloud hybrid search: Where users perform searches and are returned results from a single, consolidated index
- Hybrid federated search: Where users perform one search and results are returned from both the cloud and on-premises indices separately

The following sections will walk you through configuring cloud hybrid search in a SharePoint Server environment.
