Working with storage


Now that you have seen the technical details of storage, it's time to become familiar with the actual operations involved with manipulating your storage.

Tip

If your storage device manufacturer included specific instructions to connect to and work with their equipment, their instructions take precedence over anything in this chapter.

Connecting to iSCSI storage

The directions here will be for connecting to standardized iSCSI targets without a specific interface, such as the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target. The simplest way to connect to iSCSI storage is with the built-in GUI application, which is available on all levels of Windows Server and Hyper-V Server 2012. From a command or PowerShell prompt, run iscsicpl.exe. For a GUI installation, you can find the iSCSI Initiator under Administrative Tools. On first run, you will be greeted with the following dialog:
