System Cleanup, Troubleshooting, Defragmentation, and Reinstallation
In the previous chapter, we investigated processes, daemons, and systemd (diving deeper into the latter) and discussed the OS initialization process and service management. After briefly looking at Linux virtual consoles (TTYs), we learned how to investigate all system logs on Manjaro and checked a few tools related to them. In the last part, we dived into the basics of user management, groups, ownership, and root privileges.
This chapter continues our journey with file cleanup, from which any actively used system will benefit. We will then review hard disk partition defragmentation and when this is necessary on a Linux system. As troubleshooting is essential, we go on with the inxi tool, the best way to get system information. We will also look into an example of driver troubleshooting. We will close the chapter by learning how to keep our home partition during a Manjaro reinstallation.
