Summary
This was a chapter dedicated to architecture. Although we tried to condense many thoughts into a concise chapter, we explored various functional requirements and NFRs for architecture design. We also explored famous architectural patterns focusing on the manufacturing industry based on its fundamental principles. The five S principles of security, standardization, serviceability, scalability, and simplicity should be considered for any architecture; although there are other important NFRs, they tend to be a subset of these five.
We then delved into two widely used architecture frameworks, the IIRA and RAMI 4.0. Both provide detailed insight into how systems thinking for architecture must be considered with the utmost priority.
After this, we moved on to incorporating AI into manufacturing optimization. This changes how software and hardware are being perceived at the edge and the cloud due to how data is acquired and processed and inferences are done. In summary, the...
