Level independent MUN for parent child hierarchy
Some multi-dimensional databases provide facility to define parent-child hierarchy. I believe this is one of the strongest features of MSAS cube. This recipe will talk about the Member Unique Name for a member from parent-child hierarchy and how to make it level independent.
Please note that the feature of parent-child hierarchy is not available in PowerPlay. So if you are using the PowerPlay cube for practice, you won't be able to perform this recipe.
Getting ready
Create a simple crosstab report with Organization Code2 on rows and Current Year on columns. Drag Stmt Year in the intersection.
How to do it...
We will first add a member from parent-child hierarchy on the report. GO Sales cube comes with 'Account Dim' dimension which is of the parent-child type.
First of all, from the menu bar, choose Tool | Options. From the Report tab, uncheck the option Alias member unique names.
Now, open the crosstab query from query explorer and drag Accounts...
