In this chapter, we explored the need for monitoring, and learned the process of acquiring data from an environment, aggregating it, and storing it so that it can be retrieved later for further analysis. Being able to shape data and understand how the environment behaves by just glancing at the data helps to enhance operational efficiency.
Monitoring allows us to proactively detect problems before they happen or become a bigger problem. This is done by looking at trends, and is by far one of the most crucial reasons to implement and design a monitoring solution. We also spoke about being able to act proactively, and how that can help decrease downtime and wasting money on problems; something that can be achieved by giving shape to data.
