Analyzing part of speech
Part of speech analysis involves identifying and tagging the part of speech in a given text. This helps to understand the grammatical structure of the words in our text, which can be very useful to extract relevant insights. For example, using part of speech analysis, we can easily find key terms such as nouns, verbs, or adjectives within our text. These key terms can be pointers to key events, names, products, services, places, descriptive words, and so on.
There are nine parts of speech in the English language; we will focus on the most critical four.
- Nouns: These are used to name and identify people, places, or things – for example, a cat, ball, or London.
- Verbs: These are used to express actions or occurrences. They go hand in hand with nouns – for example, run, jump, or sleep.
- Adjectives: These provide additional information about nouns or pronouns –for example, quick fox, brown shoes, or lovely city.
