The urbanism metaphor of information systems
Why did I spend so much time and use so much text talking about technologies that became standards and had a great impact on the ease of use and capacity of the evolution of information systems inside of which they are used? Well, because what has been done for application deployment and IAM can be done for any function in a software system. There may not be an undeniable, internationally approved standard behind every functionality you need to operate in your system, but deploying a locally approved standard will provide the exact same benefits inside the perimeter of your own information system.
This approach of industrializing an information system by cutting it into zones and standardizing the interfaces between them is the best approach to keep it in a functional state of health over time. Depending on the context, you may hear about “business/IT alignment,” “enterprise architecture,” or “urbanization...
