Trade-offs between public cloud, on-premises, and multi-cloud
Trade-offs between the public cloud, on-premises-based system hosting, and multi-cloud strategy must be considered within the architecture. The data and software engineers will work with the architect to pragmatically decide whether a solution is best suited for on-premise (your enterprise data center), cloud (IaaS and PaaS), or service provider (SP; SaaS). There will be many factors that should be boiled down to an optimal solution reflecting total time and total money over some run-manage time period denoted by the strategic plan (a 5-year budget, usually).
The best practice here is to get this issue in front of a financial modeler. Many times, we’ve had to take off the architect or engineering hat and put on a financial analyst hat in order to make a case for a clearly perceived but not yet proven architecture. Let’s see some factors to put into the model.
