Working with buttons in dashboards

Buttons in Looker dashboards are interactive elements that allow users to perform actions, such as navigating to a different report, for example, or to the documentation page.

Getting ready

We’ll continue working in our Ecommerce Dashboard dashboard (in Edit Mode) where we created one visualization and text and Markdown elements.

How to do it...

Here’s how to add a button to a dashboard using the Looker UI:

  1. In the top-left corner of Ecommerce Dashboard, click on Add, then choose Button.
  2. For the label, add the following text: Go to the website.
  3. For the link, add the following URL: https://cloud.google.com/looker.
  4. Leave the description empty for now. This description will appear when you hover over the button (if empty, the description defaults to the link).
  5. Make sure the Open in a new browser tab option is selected.
  6. Make color, size, and alignment changes in the Design tab if needed.
  7. Click Save...
