Pivoting and table manipulations in Explores

Pivoting a dimension to display it horizontally improves the visual comparison of several dimensions at once. Each value in the pivoted dimension becomes a column in the Look, making the information more visually appealing and reducing the need to scroll down to find data. Looker supports up to 200 pivoted values.

How to do it...

Let’s discover pivoting in Looker through the following steps:

  1. Make sure you are in the Explore environment in the Orders and Users Explore.
  2. When you hover over any dimension in the left panel of the Explore, you will see an icon with two arrows. Hover over this icon to see the Pivot Data text.
  3. Click on the Pivot Data icon near Gender.
  4. Then, add an Age Group column (from Users) and a Count column (from Orders).
  5. Click Run. You will see the table that shows a repartition per gender and age group.
