Elicitation planning
Before you start the elicitation, you need to plan and prepare. Consider the following tasks and any other tasks, and do as much research as possible so that you can maximize the outcome:
- What information do I need to elicit?: Make a list and always have options and alternatives.
- Where are the sources of information?: You already know this from the previous chapter.
- How do I extract information from these sources?: What techniques do we utilize?
- What order to elicit: You need to follow a logical order for free flow of discussion. Be flexible as the order can vary based on stakeholders and the situation.
Note:
For effective elicitation or, as a matter of fact, for any business meeting/discussions, do the following:
- Know the players – learn about the participants
- Secure commitment and set up meetings
- Prepare an agenda
- Facilitate meetings
- Capture notes
- Summarize and send out a recap
