Feedback on the good and the bad
As this book has stated repeatedly, communication is a great and necessary thing, but what should the team discuss? Simple – absolutely everything that the team feels matters. When we say team, we mean absolutely that – anyone that was involved has an equal footing in providing feedback and insight into what happened. A senior member that had been on the team for 5 years has the same voice that should be listened to as a new person who is just learning what a hunt entails. The following is a sample flow for feedback discussions:
- ROE
- Planning
- Team preparation
- Execution – timeline reconstruction with items of interest highlighted:
- Technically identifying malicious or abnormal activity
- Threat intelligence inclusion throughout the hunt
- Reviewing and processing any findings
- Communication
- Deliverables and client feedback
