Chapter 11. OEM12c and SQL Developer

Many Oracle DBAs are still using traditional methods such as UNIX scripts and crontab to execute a scheduled backup and recovery operation that uses RMAN or Data Pump. Most of these operations can also be easily achieved by using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c (OEM12c R3) Cloud Control. This is a very comprehensive tool capable of managing a whole data center and contains the RMAN and Data Pump GUI console; and in some cases by using the SQL Developer DBA Navigator GUI interface for RMAN and Data Pump that was introduced in version 3.1 of this product. The use of these two products will help you to improve productivity, reduce maintenance costs, achieve centralized management—and what is even more important—help you to reduce any probability of human errors during backup and recovery operations. But, OEM12c and SQL Developer are not only useful for scheduling jobs; they are much more flexible and powerful as we will see in the later stages of this chapter...
