A look into Grafana
Grafana is an open source software that started as a tool for visualizing time series data. Over time, it has grown to include features for alerting and exploring metrics, logs, and traces from various remote databases or backends. This expansion has turned Grafana into a versatile tool not just for visualization but also for monitoring, analyzing, and, as we’ll explore in the next chapter, alerting across various dimensions of data.
One of the strengths of Grafana is its open source framework, which allows it to be integrated with a wide array of external systems, including various databases and IT service management (ITSM) software. This flexibility makes it an excellent choice for teams looking to customize their observability stack to their specific needs.
This chapter will continue to leverage our lab environment, which was detailed in Chapters 5 to 7 and further elaborated on in the Appendix A. Our lab features the ceos-01
and ceos-02
