Product overview – JIRA Software

So far, we have seen various aspects of JIRA, such as customization, and we have also seen how to install new add-ons to extend the functionality of JIRA. Many organizations use Agile-based methodologies for their projects, and until version 6.x there was a popular add-on called JIRA Agile that had to be purchased separately. However, starting from version 7.x, the JIRA as it used to be known had been split into three applications—JIRA Core, JIRA Software, and JIRA Service Desk. We also discussed this in Chapter 1, Planning Your JIRA Installation.

The customizations and configurations that we have discussed in this book are relevant to JIRA Core as well as JIRA Software and JIRA Service Desk. In Chapter 15, Implementing JIRA Service Desk, we will understand how to use it for managing your support projects, but in this chapter we will focus on Agile boards, which comes with your JIRA Software application.
