Why does malware exist and who are its sources?
Before we delve into the question of what malware is and its various types, let’s first discuss the underlying reason for malware or the why. Why does malware exist, and who creates and uses it? Several types of people create and use malware; some of this was alluded to in Chapter 1 when we discussed motivations. However, we need to go a little deeper and more focused and discuss a specific group, including some history and trends when it comes to malware.
Over time, malware has tended to shift from individual attackers who are motivated to show off their technological skills to people, groups, and cliques they belong to, to more coordinated and deadly attack sources.
