After training occurs


The first rule of wrapping up a training meeting is to end on time! I know this is also a sign of conducting a great meeting, but I wanted to expand on this.

It goes without saying that ending a meeting late isn't good. People have other obligations and running over the allotted time is disrespectful. It also impacts decision-making. Let's say the meeting is supposed to end at 5:00 p.m. It's 4:50 p.m. and the meeting isn't close to being over. The meeting changes—the trainer will start skipping over topics to get done on time, which means participants aren't learning what they're supposed to. Or the trainer keeps people late because they don't want to schedule an additional session. Participants start thinking about all the places they're supposed to be or the work they have to catch up on so, again, they're not learning.

Ending too early can have a negative impact as well. If you're supposed to end at 5:00 p.m., ending the meeting at 4:30 p.m. is okay. In fact, it's...
