MultipleCamera Editing Resolutions
In the past (in the days before High Definition video) it was necessary to use specific, optimized video compressions (resolutions) in order to be able to play multiple Standard Definition (SD) video clips at the same time in the Quad Split and Nine Split displays (which are frequently used when editing Group Clips and when using MultiCamera Mode). These SD resolutions were denoted with the letter m following them, for example, 4:1m. Today, with the improvements in both hardware and software, using the m resolution is not mandatory with Group Clips/MultiCamera Mode. However, using it will provide increased performance. Avid states that you will see the best real-time playback performance when you play [SD] material that was recorded at 10:1 m, 4:1 m, or 1:1 resolutions. Further, you can certainly edit Group Clips comprised of HD video. However, since the amount of data for each frame of HD is so much more than SD, there are some issues and features to be aware of, which are discussed in the next section.
