Setting up your development environment
Before you start programming, you’ll need a code editor for C#. Microsoft has a family of code editors and Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), which include:
- Visual Studio 2022 for Windows
- Visual Studio 2022 for Mac
- Visual Studio Code for Windows, Mac, or Linux
- Visual Studio Code for Web
- GitHub Codespaces
Third parties have created their own C# code editors, for example, JetBrains Rider.
In Chapters 1 to 17, you can use OS-specific Visual Studio 2022 or cross-platform Visual Studio Code and JetBrains Rider to build all the apps and services. In Chapter 18, Building Mobile and Desktop Apps Using .NET MAUI, and Chapter 19, Integrating .NET MAUI Apps with Blazor and Native Platforms, although you could use Visual Studio Code to build the mobile and desktop app, it is not easy.
