It also showed that for a cross platform solution, the cloud-based service is the easiest one to implement. But a word of caution these solutions are not free. If your app is a success and gains a large user base, you will have to pay. If you create your own push notification server, then the only on-going cost is the hosting. Which solution is the best for you? It depends on the development time you have available and your plans for your app. It's a competitive marketplace; think about how your app is funded before committing to a solution.
