Exercise
Creating a Custom Workflow Template in FL Studio: In this exercise, you will create your own custom workflow template in FL Studio using Project bones and the Piano Roll. This exercise will guide you through the process of creating and exporting a custom template that you can use in your future projects. We will follow these steps:
- Setting up Project bones: First, open FL Studio and create a new project. Set up your mixer and arrange your patterns as you would for a typical project. Next, select the elements of your project that you would like to save as a Project bone. This could include mixer track settings, pattern settings, and plugin settings. For this exercise, let’s focus on the Piano Roll.
- Creating a custom workflow template in the Piano Roll: Once you have selected the elements you want to save, go to the Piano Roll for one of your patterns. Here, you can create a custom workflow template by setting up your preferred grid, snap settings, note lengths, and so on. Take your time and adjust everything to your liking.
- Saving your custom workflow template: Once you have set up your custom workflow template, it’s time to save it as a Project bone. To do this, click on File | Export | The Project bones… option in the drop-down menu, as shown in Figure 2.43:
Figure 2.43: File | Export | Project bones…
This will open the Project bones window. Click on the Add button to add your custom workflow template to the list of Project bones. Give it a name that is descriptive of its contents, such as Custom Piano Roll Template
. Once you have saved your custom workflow template as a Project bone, you can reuse it in future projects or share it with other FL Studio users.
- Exporting your workflow template: Finally, export your custom workflow template so that you can use it in your future projects. To do this, go to the File menu and select Export | Project bones…. This will open the Project bones export window. Select the Project bone that you just created, and choose a location to save the file. Make sure to save it in a location that is easy to access in the future, such as your FL Studio
packs
folder.
Congratulations! You have now created a custom workflow template using Project bones and the Piano Roll in FL Studio. You can use this template in future projects to save time and streamline your workflow.
