Chapter 7. Glossary Solutions

Moodle's glossary activity provides the framework for creating and then modifying/maintaining a number of definitions that tie in with the instructional material for the unit. Most people think of glossaries as nothing more than special-purpose, online dictionaries. In Moodle, glossaries can be used in a number of ways, and you can create useful, multi-functional activities that help your students achieve the learning objectives of the course. For example, you can create key concept reviews, a student's directory, and group assignments. You can help students develop a way to organize knowledge and begin to make connections between items and prior knowledge. But a glossary can also be an enjoyable, collaborative activity as well as a teaching tool for your class. Let's look at the capabilities of the glossary module first, and then ideas for using glossaries for more than just vocabulary building.
