Summary
This chapter provided a high-level overview of all the observability data types with which you can build robust network observability solutions and the different methods of collecting the data (i.e., traditional and modern ones). We won’t use all of them in this book, but knowing all the available approaches provides flexibility.
This chapter closes Part 1 of the book. This initial part of the book aims to introduce you to the basic definitions and fundamentals around observability to use them in the rest of the book.
Part 2 of the book proposes an architecture for building modern network observability solutions (introduced in the next chapter, Chapter 4), and then, goes through component after component of this architecture and explains how to implement them, focusing on some of the most popular open source projects in each area.
