The following table summarizes the prerequisites for deploying an Azure Virtual Desktop environment:

Infrastructure prerequisites

Azure Virtual Desktop can only be used in a cloud-only organization or a hybrid environment.

Hybrid Active Directory environments/cloud organization component prerequisites

  • An Entra ID organization.
  • A domain controller that’s synced with Entra ID. You can configure this with one of the following:
    • Microsoft Entra Connect
    • Entra ID Domain Services
    • A virtual machine in Azure acting as a domain controller
    • An Azure subscription that contains a virtual network that either contains or is connected to Windows Server Active Directory or Entra ID Domain Services
    • Entra ID DS
