Summary
Our Nagios setup is now complete and ready to be configured! We have covered various ways to get Nagios up and running—both from source code and using prebuilt binary packages. In this chapter, you also learned how to run Nagios in virtualizations such as containers and virtual machines.
If you have used the automated script for setting up Nagios, which we strongly recommend, the key system paths to keep in mind are as follows :
/opt/nagios
: This is where Nagios binaries and HTML files were installed/opt/nagios/plugins
: This is where Nagios plugins are installed/etc/nagios
: All configuration files should be placed here/var/nagios
: This is where Nagios will keep its local state
If you have used a different method for setting up Nagios, such as using the prebuilt packages, please keep in mind that these are the paths that are used throughout the rest of this book and may need adjusting for your particular installation.
The next chapter will guide you through the Nagios...
