PLC Data Acquisition and Analysis
This hands-on chapter will help readers understand and appreciate the integration of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with a data acquisition system. Starting with the architecture and build of a PLC and moving on to the evolution of hardware from the 1960s, this chapter will shed light on the actual brain controlling the machines on a shop floor. We will also introduce the readers to the basics of programming a PLC with ladder logic and the tools for this from various Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The important aspects of configuring the protocols, mapping the tags, and retrieving the data from PLCs is handled by showing the readers how it’s actually done. This is the fundamental integration point for OT and IT.
We will delve into the following topics in this chapter:
- PLC hardware and architecture
- PLC programming: ladder diagrams
- Practical application of PLC: smart mocktail bar
- Data integration and mapping...
