Description
Dancing with Qubits, Second Edition, is a comprehensive quantum computing textbook that starts with an overview of why quantum computing is so different from classical computing and describes several industry use cases where it can have a major impact. A full description of classical computing and the mathematical underpinnings of quantum computing follows, helping you better understand concepts such as superposition, entanglement, and interference. Next up are circuits and algorithms, both basic and sophisticated, as well as a survey of the physics and engineering ideas behind how quantum computing hardware is built. Finally, the book looks to the future and gives you guidance on understanding how further developments may affect you.
This new edition is updated throughout with more than 100 new exercises and includes new chapters on NISQ algorithms and quantum machine learning.
Understanding quantum computing requires a lot of math, and this book doesn't shy away from the necessary math concepts you'll need. Each topic is explained thoroughly and with helpful examples, leaving you with a solid foundation of knowledge in quantum computing that will help you pursue and leverage quantum-led technologies.

I always hear about quantum computing, but I was never sure what it was. This book provided a great introduction to what it is, how it works, and what I can use it for. What I also liked was it talked about the possible future of quantum computing so I can have an idea of why people are talking about quantum computing.

Really enjoyed reading this book. Does an excellent job of explaining the hard to understand topics in digestible terms but also gets deep into the math and technical information too.

Sutor did an incredible job of walking the reader through the history of computation, it's inherent mathematical complexity, and where the future will take us, all while maintaining an easy to understand language including examples & analogies. The foundation of transistors & their scaling to the end of Moore's law gracefully gives rise to the modern Qubit. Sutor writes the story without pretension & follows up with the mathematics needed to orchestrate transistors at scale. Future processors will break from their deterministic ancestors to give a probabilistic result & Robert ties it all together without confusing the reader but maintains a sense that independent contemplation is highly encouraged. I recommend any and all technology enthusiasts to give this a read to prepare for the coming Quantum Revolution.

Robert S. Sutor has been a technical leader and executive in the IT industry for over 40 years. More than two decades of that were spent in IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, New York USA. During his time there, he worked on and led efforts in symbolic mathematical computation, mathematical programming languages, optimization, AI, blockchain, and quantum computing. He is the author of Dancing with Qubits: How quantum computing works and how it can change the world and Dancing with Python: Learn Python software development from scratch and get started with quantum computing, also with Packt. He is the published co-author of several research papers and the book Axiom: The Scientific Computation System with the late Richard D. Jenks.
Sutor was an IBM executive on the software side of the business in areas including Java web application servers, emerging industry standards, software on Linux, mobile, and open source. He was the Vice President of Corporate Development and, later, Chief Quantum Advocate, at Infleqtion, a quantum computing and quantum sensing company based in Boulder, Colorado USA. He is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University at Buffalo, New York, USA.
He is a theoretical mathematician by training, has a Ph.D. from Princeton University, and an undergraduate degree from Harvard College. He started coding when he was 15 and has used most of the programming languages that have come along.

What happens if an Early Access Course is cancelled?
Projects are rarely cancelled, but sometimes it's unavoidable. If an Early Access course is cancelled or excessively delayed, you can exchange your purchase for another course. For further details, please contact us here.
Where can I send feedback about an Early Access title?
If you have any feedback about the product you're reading, or Early Access in general, then please fill out a contact form here and we'll make sure the feedback gets to the right team.
Can I download the code files for Early Access titles?
We try to ensure that all books in Early Access have code available to use, download, and fork on GitHub. This helps us be more agile in the development of the book, and helps keep the often changing code base of new versions and new technologies as up to date as possible. Unfortunately, however, there will be rare cases when it is not possible for us to have downloadable code samples available until publication.
When we publish the book, the code files will also be available to download from the Packt website.
How accurate is the publication date?
The publication date is as accurate as we can be at any point in the project. Unfortunately, delays can happen. Often those delays are out of our control, such as changes to the technology code base or delays in the tech release. We do our best to give you an accurate estimate of the publication date at any given time, and as more chapters are delivered, the more accurate the delivery date will become.
How will I know when new chapters are ready?
We'll let you know every time there has been an update to a course that you've bought in Early Access. You'll get an email to let you know there has been a new chapter, or a change to a previous chapter. The new chapters are automatically added to your account, so you can also check back there any time you're ready and download or read them online.
I am a Packt subscriber, do I get Early Access?
Yes, all Early Access content is fully available through your subscription. You will need to have a paid for or active trial subscription in order to access all titles.
