Time for action — making the cockpit
Now building the hull will be similar to building the boat because you will be using extrusion and scaling:
Press Numpad 7 to get the Top view.
Select Face Select Mode on the 3D View header.
Press C and use the mouse to select the faces over the cockpit and cabin on the template, as shown in the following screenshot. Press theRMB to stop selecting.
Press Numpad 3 to get the Side view.
Press B and then theMMB to deselect the faces on the bottom of the hull that were previously selected, as shown in the following screenshot. Leave only the faces on the top of the hull selected.
Go to the Properties window and select the Object Data button, which is the eighth button from the left on the header, as shown in the following screenshot. In the Vertex Groups subpanel, press the plus sign to create a new vertex group. In the white box to the right of Name: name the group Cockpit, as shown in the following screenshot, and press Enter. Then press the Assign button...
