WordPress gives you a very powerful way of organizing external links or bookmarks on your site. This is a way to link other related blogs—websites you like, websites that you think your visitors will find useful, or just any category of link you want—to your blog. Speaking of categories, you can create and manage link categories that are separate from your blog categories.
The possibility to manage links is one of the old school features in WordPress. It's been available since forever. And that's probably why it's not available anymore (for WordPress 3.5 and above). At least not by default. What I mean is that everyone who had a site running on WordPress versions below 3.5 could access the link manager normally. So if such a person then updated WordPress to Version 3.5, the link manager remained intact. However, everyone who installs WordPress 3.5 from the ground up (as a completely new, fresh site) has link manager disabled. Nevertheless, the link manager is still worth discussing...
