Chapter 8. Migrating Virtual Machines
Virtual machines can be nondisruptively migrated to different ESXi hosts, datastores, or both. This chapter explores how to configure a vMotion network as well as how to conduct the migration using vMotion, Storage vMotion, or cross-host Storage vMotion. Being able to move a virtual machine without interruption changes how a datacenter operates. Now, an ESXi host may have maintenance conducted during the work day without any disruption to the end user. Cluster features, such as Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) and Storage Distributed Resource Scheduler (SDRS), discussed in later chapters, leverage vMotion and Storage vMotion technologies, respectively.
In this chapter, you will learn:
Configuring a vMotion network
How to use vMotion
How to use Storage vMotion
Cross-host Storage vMotion
