Step 7 – building and configuring our foundational VPC network

Whew – that’s a lot of networking bits! At this point, we have most of what we will need to implement the seventh step in our 10-step Google Cloud foundation process – build and configure our foundational VPC network – but we need to come up with a plan. It’s like we have this nice, big box of network Legos; we just need to figure out what we want to build. If you check the seventh step (https://cloud.google.com/docs/enterprise/setup-checklist#checklist-heading-7), Google says that there are variations, depending on what you are trying to accomplish in Google Cloud, but in general, the five key network design steps we need to accomplish are as follows:

  1. Set up our Shared VPC networks.
  2. Decide how we want to connect our on-premises environment to our GCP environment, and implement it.
  3. Configure a path for egress traffic to leave our VPC.
