New Work

New Work is a new movement that changes the working world. It mainly affects knowledge workers.

One aspect is the mindset change of the younger work generation. The ongoing transition from an industrial society to a knowledge society is changing people's values in many countries.

Money, career, and status symbols are no longer the most important driving factors for them. More important is a good work-life balance, having a meaningful life and doing meaningful work.

The internet is another enabler of this change. Nowadays, you can collaborate with people independently of their location.

This leads to questions such as:

• Why should someone else – called the boss – tell me what to do if I can make a much better decision that would be much more effective?
• If I can work anytime and anywhere, why do I have to be in the office from 9 to 5?
• Why must I record my working times? The outcome is important, not the work effort.
