Control challenge

A typical setup for monitoring tension control in an industrial environment is elaborated on in the following diagram. It is not too different to what we saw in the temperature control example, but the difference is the way it is measured. The following diagram provides only a high-level overview of an application:

Meanwhile, a machine in the industry would have the following architecture:

The preceding example shows the use of a load cell for acquiring field information and sensing the load/stress/tension on a particular product. This is one form of a closed loop and how the sensor inputs can be used by the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to monitor the load on a product, such as a wire or thread.
