General Soft Skills
One of the greatest distinctions for a sales engineer (SE) is their proficiency with the softer skills. Yes, the humble yet mighty goose must be technically sharp for success in this role. However, I am going to make the very bold claim that an SE’s soft skills are even more important than their technical skills! Yep. Let the debate begin! No matter what you believe is the top attribute, I can assure you that any competent and seasoned SE who has been in the industry for some time would argue the importance of having a solid mastery of soft skills.
Because of both the complexity and the breadth of skills needed in this area, it can be seen as the most difficult to master. For example, soft skills allow the SE to properly manage their time as well as navigate the complexities of people, both of which are entirely different skills yet fall into this seemingly nebulous category we call soft skills!
