Chapter 12: Using the ODS for Visualization in SAS
This chapter will focus on the basics of using the SAS output delivery system (ODS) for data visualization, both in print and on the web. Now, the ODS is embedded in SAS reporting functions and does not need to be called up separately.
This chapter covers how complex legacy code, containing arrays, macro variables, and macros, has been built and maintained for SAS reporting in print format. This SAS code is often continuously maintained, so migrating away from the SAS platform for this type of reporting poses a challenge. In contrast, SAS reporting to the web, which also deploys the ODS, poses its own challenges with input/output (I/O) and other limitations. We will cover two tools – the SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Viya – that can help with these challenges. Finally, we will cover using other applications, such as R and Tableau, to visualize SAS data, and considerations that SAS warehouse developers must make when...
