Installing Google Analytics

Another common task that you may want to do with your Joomla! website is to track visitor statistics with the help of Google Analytics.

Getting ready

For this task, you'll need a Google Analytics account (which you can register for at http://www.google.com/analytics) and to retrieve the code provided once you have created a website profile.

How to do it...

1. 1. Open your template's index.php file and find this code:

   </body>
   </html>
   

2. 2. Before the</body> tag, add the code that Google Analytics provided for your Joomla! website. Once inserted, the bottom of your template's index.php file should look like this:

   <script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
   <script type="text/javascript"> <!--// _uacct = "UA-123456-7";
   urchinTracker(); //--> </script>
