Chapter 6: Launching the Platform
In the previous chapter, we started with the execution part of platform product management and we understood how to translate the business and platform strategy into a platform roadmap. While understanding the creation of a platform roadmap, we looked at mapping the End-to-End (E2E) platform user journey and carving out a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) from that journey.
To slice the MVP from the user journey, identifying capabilities is a must. Platform capabilities can be categorized into two types: technical capabilities and functional capabilities. Roadmaps for functional and technical capabilities, combined with a roadmap for touchpoints, form the platform roadmap. Technical capabilities represent the infrastructure layer of the platform, whereas functional capabilities and touchpoints represent the business and the customer experience layers, respectively.
