What is custom duty/charge?

Customs duty are charges levied on goods when they cross international borders. It is a tax that is imposed on imported goods. These duties are charged by special authorities and bodies created by local governments and are meant to protect local industries, economies, and businesses.

Do I have to pay customs charges for the print book order?

The orders shipped to the countries that are listed under EU27 will not bear custom charges. They are paid by Packt as part of the order.

A custom duty or localized taxes may be applicable on the shipment and would be charged by the recipient country outside of the EU27 which should be paid by the customer and these duties are not included in the shipping charges been charged on the order.

How do I know my custom duty charges?

The amount of duty payable varies greatly depending on the imported goods, the country of origin and several other factors like the total invoice amount or dimensions like weight, and other such criteria applicable in your country.

For example:

If you live in Mexico, and the declared value of your ordered items is over $ 50, for you to receive a package, you will have to pay additional import tax of 19% which will be $ 9.50 to the courier service.
Whereas if you live in Turkey, and the declared value of your ordered items is over € 22, for you to receive a package, you will have to pay additional import tax of 18% which will be € 3.96 to the courier service.

How can I cancel my order?

Cancellation Policy for Published Printed Books:

You can cancel any order within 1 hour of placing the order. Simply contact customercare@packt.com with your order details or payment transaction id. If your order has already started the shipment process, we will do our best to stop it. However, if it is already on the way to you then when you receive it, you can contact us at customercare@packt.com using the returns and refund process.

What tax is charged?

This is absolutely the best book on ESP 32,IOT programming out there, and I’ve read a few. It uses PlatformIO and Visual Studio Code as the development environment which are both brilliant development tools for amateurs and professionals.My only problem is getting PlatformIO to work with the ESP32 toolset with my Raspberry Pi development system. I suspect Windows users won’t have a problem. I’d make sure that whatever development system you use is compatible before you buy the book.As a previous person wrote PlatformIO is a Ukrainian product. I’ve posted a few questions on their support forum and had pretty much instant answers. This is amazing considering I don’t pay for the product and the guys are in a war. When I was a professional developer I never had a better service

Great book! Clear and easy to understand. Starts with the basics to establish a good foundation then moves into advanced topics. The first two chapters are worth the price of the book and there's so much more! WiFi, Bluetooth, security, cloud integration including interaction with Alexa.The Espressif IoT Development Framework offers a lot more granular control over the ESP32 and devices than the Arduino API.

Excellent book with comprehensive coverage on developing IoT devices with ESP32 SOC. It broadly covers different range of IoT development which includes interfacing different sensors with different communication protocols (UART, I2C etc), dealing with Wireless technologies (WiFi. BLE), using FreeRTOS and most importantly about security side of IoT. Very easy to follow the steps through the projects with relevant images and code snippets.The author assumes that you are familiar with basic electronics and embedded development fundamentals. You might need to order few of the electronics components, which are readily available and cheap to buy for few of the projects mentioned out in the book. In terms of software, there’s good coverage of PlatformIO on VSCode, which is available on most major platforms.I really enjoyed the section that covers connecting ESP32 to AWS Cloud and other platforms. My other personal projects with BLE and voice controlled smart fan were fun too.Few things I would have liked here: I felt the need for some debugging guidelines to newbies using the JTAG/Serial. I would have also liked to see author talking little more about processor architecture and its ramifications when using FreeRTOS.Being an IoT enthusiast and having had the experience with working on ESP32 with mass producing IoT product, this book effectively gives new insights that are up to date and relevant, and I would surely recommend this to readers.

Get ready for hands onThe book is a good start for anyone who wants to learn how to use ESP32 effectively in IoT projects, as promised in the introduction chapter. The flow of the book reflects this attitude to help the reader fully grasp the capabilities of the ESP32 platform.The book begins with the basics as it should do. It provides step-by-step guidance in every chapter and in every example. In the very first example, you learn the toolchain, the development environment, and the configuration files to build your project successfully. All the topics are explained on top of previously attained skills. You can start reading from any chapter based on what you're looking for but it would be advisable to follow the flow to improve progressively if you are new to the subject.The table of contents is obviously well-analyzed. The first section of the book is devoted to the ESP32 platform itself. It explains how to interface ESP32 with other peripherals and provides many good examples showing the capabilities of ESP32 to drive such systems. Be ready, this section requires a good amount of hardware investment. I enjoyed learning about low-power applications in this section. The second section talks about wireless communication, both WiFi and Bluetooth. Even though you can find this information everywhere, I think the examples are extraordinary in terms of the effectiveness in learning. When you get into the last section of the book, you see the whole picture of what an IoT device is by working with the cloud platforms and services. Integration with the Alexa voice service has many steps to complete the example successfully but it will be worth the effort when this skill is needed in an IoT project.Could be better:I expected JTAG debugging could have more space in this book. It only mentions it in a very brief topic and no practical run in anywhere else.I can easily recommend this book to anyone who wants to gain hands-on experience with the ESP32 platform.

About This BookThis book goes into detail on using the ESP32 device to build projects focusing on automation. It starts with the very basics, progresses through different peripherals that extend its functionality, and finishes with concerns and considerations for projects such as security.Who Is This For?The book has a broader focus on anyone with an interest in using the ESP32 for their projects. I would personally argue that this book works better for someone with at least a hobbyist’s background in electronics. You won’t get quite as much out of this book otherwise.OrganizationI really like the overall organization of this book. There are three sections, standard for most Packt books, but each section has a practice project that brings together everything you’ve learned so far and gives even more detail. Each non-practice chapter gives you 2-3 books that can further your understanding of the topic.Did This Book Succeed?This is a great book that stays true to its topic. By working through this book, you’ll have the ability to create projects using the ESP32 and easily build upon your knowledge to take it beyond what the book teaches you. The only downside with it, and this is an issue with nearly every hardware book I’ve read, is that there is no price estimate given for each project. Yes, the ESP32 itself is very cheap, but you need more than just it to build up the projects. While a hobbyist or IoT professional might have the remaining hardware laying around, newcomers to the field probably will not.Rating and Final ThoughtsOverall, I give this book a 4.7 out of 5.It states exactly what it is and sticks to it. It’s a well-organized and tight book that anyone in IoT will want to pick up.
