ColdFusion AJAX


Web servers possess the design to work with AJAX. This proved to be one of the most remarkable features in this version of ColdFusion. The features of AJAX integration are focused into two areas—layout and server communication. We will concentrate on layout in this chapter, but will mention some of the communication features, wherever appropriate.

Layout

There are four layout containers in ColdFusion 9. These include the <cfdiv>, <cflayout>, <cf pod>, and <cfwindow> containers. They give us great power and flexibility.

<cfdiv />

By default, this will generate <div> tags and send them as HTML to the browser. We are going to create a page that allows us to pass the name and date of a form to another page. The AJAX feature is that the page will not reload to refresh the <div> content. It will be passed through an AJAX request. Here's how we can do this in ColdFusion:
