Summary

In this chapter, we introduced firewalls and the services they offer. We also saw how firewalls work in a defense strategy by providing perimeter security for the entire network. We then saw how a transparent firewall and an application-layer firewall work as a means for providing additional security.

In the next chapter, we will learn about the ASA functionality and the basic configuration of Cisco ASA.
