Well, all good things must come to an end. You now should know how a switch differs from a bridge, not only in speed, but in the functionality the switch brings to the network. We also went over the configurations of each switch, the administrative commands, and the IP configuration commands, including the ip default-gateway command. We looked at the capability of creating VLANs, to increase the number of broadcast domains, which leads to less broadcast advertisements on your network.
By no means is this the last that we will be talking about switches. In the coming chapters, we will be talking about STP, VTP, VLANs, 802.1q, and much more. This was a foundation on switching so you can get a firm grasp before we move on to the more advanced topics. See you in the next chapter.
