Understanding the concepts from a variety of cybersecurity frameworks is important for architects since many security and risk-management leaders in IIoT projects embrace them as a means of streamlining their efforts. The President of the United States issued an Executive Order 13636, on February 12, 2013 for improving critical infrastructure cybersecurity. Subsequently, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) drafted a Cybersecurity Framework (https://www.nist.gov/sites/default/files/documents////draft-cybersecurity-framework-v1.11.pdf). The Framework was created via public-private collaboration and is a follow-on to the Risk Management Framework (NIST special publication 800-53) that we will describe in Chapter 9, Governance and Assuring Compliance.
