Building links with super directories: Yahoo! directory and DMOZ

There are a handful of directories that by their age and reputation represent tremendously valuable link opportunities. The two most important directories are the Yahoo! Directory and the Open Directory Project, which operates the directory at http://www.dmoz.org.

The Yahoo! directory, for those who are old enough to remember, was the genesis of the entire Yahoo! company and brand. The Yahoo! directory still lives today, and it still passes PageRank and authority for those fortunate enough to have a link. Some of the internal pages on the Yahoo! Directory are PR6 pages—a very desirable link to be sure. The Yahoo! directory is nearly mandatory for all webmasters. Submission is almost guaranteed for an annual $299 non-refundable "review fee." Review the guidelines before submitting to be sure your site is eligible for inclusion; some types of sites are not welcome in the Yahoo! directory.
