Applying guidelines to design

This book follows the order of the life cycle of conversational AI design. Why do guidelines and heuristics come after “building” the experience and prompt engineering? This is a chicken and egg problem. Many teams create generative AI experiences for the first time. The application of guidelines and heuristics has to be done with some understanding of what has previously been built. In visual experiences such as GUIs, previous project experience helps inform what guidelines and heuristics will translate into new designs. This is not the case with conversational AI. This advice is here to help you get started and be there as your journey unfolds.

Software tests can be crafted to evaluate whether a guideline is met. Testing is more challenging with a heuristic.
