Classifying nodes
This procedure explains how to assign pertinent information to nodes, such as a device name, physical location, and/or the priority of the device. We recommend thoroughly labeling and categorizing all nodes to reflect your network environment; this will be beneficial later during administration, reporting, alerting, and so on. To a certain extent, this also empowers SolarWinds SAM to act as an asset management service for production servers, devices, and applications.
Creating custom properties
This tutorial explains how to create a custom property that will include a drop-down list with information related to your organization. In this example we will create an Address custom property.
Tip
It is beneficial to take a well-planned and methodical approach when designing your custom properties structure. At this point, more work now means less work later, and greater overall SolarWinds SAM functionality.
