Just like in previous editions, Exchange 2016 uses both send and receive connectors to transmit and accept messages from other servers. Receive connectors are maintained at the server level, while send connectors are maintained at an organization level.
These connectors can be managed from within the Exchange Admin Center (EAC), but the addition, configuration, and removal of these connectors can also be completely managed from the Exchange Management Shell.
