Evaluating Exchange options
Many organizations have existing on-premises Exchange deployments and may be evaluating whether to upgrade to the next version of the on-premise edition or migrate to a cloud-based service such as Exchange Online. As it is when transitioning other services from traditional to cloud-based subscriptions, it's important to weigh the risks and benefits, such as cost, security, accessibility, mobility, growth, maintenance, and compliance.
Once an organization has decided to make the transition to Exchange Online, its next step is determining a migration strategy. Functionally, it's important to look at the following:
- How many users', shared, and resource mailboxes need to be migrated?
- What is the volume of data that must be migrated?
- How much bandwidth will be required?
- What services and features are you currently using, and what is the cloud-based equivalent?
- Is any data currently subject to litigation or retention policies...
