Understanding how you apply the 3-2-1 rule to backup jobs
So you might, at this point, be wondering, how do I go about applying the 3-2-1 backup rule and what sort of media should I consider? There are plenty of media types that you can use to fit the model for 3-2-1, and also take into account setting up retention with GFS (short for Grandfather-Father-Son), which breaks down as follows:
- Grandfather: Backups are kept for a year or more depending on your retention requirements.
- Father: Backups are kept for a month or more depending on your retention requirements.
- Son: Backups are kept for a week or more depending on your retention requirements.
